To be safe, let's create a folder called 'UPGRADE' on the desktop and extract the files into that folder

4. Double-click the file '1.50 - 3.03 OE-C'

5. Let the program know which drive letter is your PSP and it will copy the files over to your memory stick

6. When it's done go to under from the home menu and scroll down to 3.03 OE-C Firmware Install and select it.

7. Hooray for homebrew!!

Why Downgrade?

PSP with version 1.5 or lower firmware are able to run homebrews, emulators, and most importantly, load game images of the memory stick without the need of a UMD.

Can I downgrade?

To check for your firmware version, firstly, go to your 'System Settings' Icon , scroll down to 'System Information' and note the firmware version you are running.

What we need

Here are the things we need to have before we start the downgrade process:

     1. A UMD of GTA: Liberty City Story (with 2.0 upgrade icon when game is loaded)
This is very important! You can't do the downgrade without this!
2. 3.03 firmware update (of your PSP is version 3.03 and below)
3. 3.03 Downgrader Pack
4. 3.03 Homebrew Enabler (3.03 HEN) Pack
5. 1.5 firmware update

VERY IMPORTANT

Firstly, if your PSP firmware version below 3.03, you will have to upgrade your PSP to a version 3.03 first before downgrading it.
Also, make sure your PSP is plugged into the AC power source before starting and upgrade process.

To upgrade to 3.03

1. Connect your PSP to your computer via a USB connection

2. Go to 'My Computer' and explore the Removable Disc that is detected on Windows, which is actually your PSP.There should be a folder called 'PSP there.

3. Within the 'PSP' folder, there is a folder called 'GAME'. Within the 'GAME' folder, create a folder called 'UPDATE'.

IMPORTANT: The update folder can ONLY be inside the 'GAME' folder for the update process to work.

4. Copy the firmware version 3.03 file EBOOT.PBP into the 'UPDATE' folder. (Please make sure it's the right firmware version)

5. Disconnect the USB connection.

6. To start the update, Select under from the home menu, and select .

7. Press the button to start the update.

8. After the update's done, go to your system information under system settings to confirm it.

9. You can now delete EBOOT.PBP file from the 'UPDATE' folder.

Downgrading to 1.5

1. Connect your PSP to the PC via USB connection

2. Format the memory stick (back up any data you want to keep first!)

3. Let's organise the files we'd downloaded to avoid any confusion. Copy the contents of MS_ROOT in the 3.03 Downgrader Pack into the memory stick.

4. Copy the contents of MS_ROOT inside 3.03 HEN into the memory stick.

5. Within the 'PSP' folder, there is a folder called 'GAME'. Within the 'GAME' folder, create a folder called 'UPDATE'.

6. Rename the 1.5 firmware update file EBOOT.PBP to UPDATE.PBP and copy it into the newly created 'UPDATE' folder in the memory stick

7. Insert GTA:LCS UMD and run the game as you would for any game.

8. It will attempt to load a saved game and the PSP will show a blank screen, then a Light Blue colored screen, and finally it will do an automatic reboot.

9. Go to 'System Information', and check if the firmware version shows up as 3.03 HEN. If so, we can proceed on the the next step. If not, repeat steps 7 and 8 again till it shows up.

10. Select under from the home menu, select X.YZ update and press the button.

11. If you have a TA-082/TA-086 motherboard, the downgrader will ask if you want to patch your motherboard so that it can be safely downgraded.

Please note that the downgrader will not let you proceed any further if your motherboard requires patching and you do not do so.

12. The downgrader will then confirm if you want to proceed with the operation. Press the right shoulder trigger button if you want to quit.

13. The downgrade will then proceed. When it is finished, press the button. The PSP will reboot.

14. An error message will pop up. Just ignore it and press the "O" button. The system would then rebuild the system data on its own and restart.

15. If the above blue screen does not show, load the included NetConfigBackup application from GAME --> Memory Stick, and select restore.

16. first before downgrading it.
Also, make sure your PSP is plugged into the AC power source before starting and upgrade process.

To upgrade to 2.71 (if your PSP FW is 2.7)

4. Copy the firmware version 2.71 file EBOOT.PBP into the 'UPDATE' folder.

2. To be safe, let's create a folder called 'DOWNGRADE' on the desktop and save the file into that folder.

3. Double-click the file 'Downgrader2.71FULL.exe'.

4. Let the program know which drive letter (G:,H:, etc) is your PSP and the files will be copied over

5. Double check that your AC Adaptor is plugged in. Select in your home menu and the downgrader should start the moment you press . If not, scroll down to the file named hw.tif and press .

6. When the downgrader starts, the PSP screen will turn red and the memory stick light will flash. This might require a few tries. If it does not happen, just repeat step 5 again.

7. When the process is done, the memory stick light will stop flasing. Wait for about 30 seconds before you turn off your PSP.

8. Wait for another 30 seconds (to be safe) and turn on the PSP.

9. An error message will pop up. Just ignore it and press the button. The system would then rebuild the system data on its own and restart.

If you get a red screen, read what it says, follow the instructions (turn off the PSP and turn it back on again).

10. A UMD of GTA: Liberty City Story (with 2.0 upgrade icon when game is loaded)
This is very important! You can't do any downgrade without this!

2. Easy 2.50/2.60 Downgrader (Click to download)

VERY IMPORTANT

Firstly, if your PSP firmware version is a 2.01, you will have to upgrade your PSP to a version 2.5 or 2.6 first before downgrading it.
Also, make sure your PSP is plugged into the AC power source before starting and upgrade process.

To upgrade to 2.5/2.6 (if your PSP FW is 2.01)

4. Copy the firmware version 2.5/2.6 file EBOOT.PBP into the 'UPDATE' folder.

2. Extract the files in the DOWNGRADER pack. To be safe, let's create a folder called 'DOWNGRADE' on the desktop and extract the files into that folder.

3. Double-click the file 'Downgrader2.50-2.60ENFULL.exe'.

4. The next few steps are pretty simple and straightfoward as this application will walk through with you the downgrade process complete with images and audio.

5. Make sure you select the right firmware version!

6. Wait for the files to be copied over. Might take a couple of minutes, depending.

7. Insert GTA:LCS UMD and run the game as you would for any game.

8. When the menu appears, press to run the Downgrader:Downdate test

9. The screen will go blank and the memory stick light will flash. DON'T PANIC AND TURN OFF YOUR PSP! THIS IS PART OF THE PROCESS!

10. An error message and some gibberish will appear on the screen. DON'T PANIC AGAIN FOR F***'s SAKE. Just unplug the USB and the AC Adaptor, and turn off your PSP by sliding the power button and holding on to it for a couple of seconds.

11. Turn the PSP back on

12. Another error message will pop up. Just ignore it and press the button. The system would then rebuild the system data on its own and restart.

13. Almost done! Just go to your system information under system settings to confirm that the firmware version is 1.50.

14. Congrats! Your PSP can now run homebrew and many other cool applications!

Downgrade PSP Firmware Tutorial (1.51, 1.52 and 2.0 FW)

This article was originally published at RJL Marketplace in early 2006.
Some elements of this article may be outdated.

There are 2 different downgrades out there.
I'd personally used the MPH downgrader on my 1.51 PSP and it worked like a charm. Connect your PSP to your computer via a USB connection

2. Go to 'My Computer' and explore the Removable Disc that is detected on Windows, which is actually your PSP. There should be a folder called 'PSP there.

   3. Within the 'PSP' folder, there is a folder called 'GAME'. Within the 'GAME' folder, create a folder called 'UPDATE'.

IMPORTANT: The update folder can ONLY be inside the 'GAME' folder for the update process to work.

   4. Copy the firmware version 1.5 file EBOOT.PBP into the 'UPDATE' folder. (Please make sure it's the right firmware version)

   5. Unpack the MPHDowngrader file

   6. Copy overflow.tif into the 'PHOTO' folder

   7. Copy index.dat and h.bin into your root directory (not the 'PSP' folder)

   8. Disconnect the USB connection

   9. Select in your home menu, and scroll to overflow.tif

   10. Don't press any button. The process will run automatically. Two strings of numbers will appear on the screen.

   11. Wait for 30 seconds or more, and then power-off your PSP by sliding the power button up and holding it till shuts down.

   12. Turn on your PSP again

   13. To start the downgrade, Select under from the home menu, and select .

   14. Press the button to start the process. Just follow the prompts.

   15. A progress bar will appear when the downgrade is in process.

   16. When it reaches 99%, the system WILL CRASH AND SHOW AN ERROR. Do not worry as this is a necessary part in the downgrade process.

   17. Once again, power-off your PSP by sliding the power button up and holding it till shuts down.

   18. Turn the PSP back on.

   19. Another error message will pop up. Just ignore it and press the button. The system would then rebuild the system data on its own and restart.

   20. Almost done! Just go to your system information under system settings to confirm that the firmware version is 1.50.

   21. You can now delete EBOOT.PBP file from the 'UPDATE' folder.

   22. Congrats! Your PSP can now run homebrew and many other cool applications!

First Post

Hello everyone!
